There are as many as 22 species of fish off the North Devon coast. The sheltered waters produce 8 or 9 different species every day.
A host of inshore reefs produce Spurdog, Pollack, Bass, Huss and Trigger Fish. While sandbanks are very good for Smoothhounds and Rays. Deep water of 150 feet plus is only 4 miles off shore and holds lots of Tope, Shark,Conger, and big Huss. There are numerous wrecks in the bay which have never been netted commercially. These hold big Pollack, and Conger.
A typical day would start by catching mackeral on feathers, then we anchor up and fish big baits on the bottom. When the tide starts to run fast the anchor is brought in and we drift fish with lures or mackeral strips on flowing traces over the reefs.I guarantee catching fish and my policy is no fish no fee.
